Accessibility Statement

BusyKids is committed to making our website accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We are working towards conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA.

Conformance status

We are currently working towards WCAG 2.2 Level AA conformance. Our site is partially conformant — some content does not yet fully meet all success criteria. We are actively identifying and fixing issues.

What we have done

  • Set the page language to English for screen readers
  • Provided a “Skip to main content” link on every page
  • Used semantic HTML landmarks (navigation, main, footer)
  • Added visible focus indicators for keyboard navigation
  • Supported reduced motion preferences for users who are sensitive to animation
  • Respected system colour scheme preferences (light/dark mode)
  • Ensured interactive dialogs trap focus and can be closed with the Escape key
  • Provided text alternatives for images

Known issues

We are aware of the following accessibility issues and are working to resolve them:

  • Some form inputs may not have visible labels (they use placeholder text instead)
  • The interactive map is not fully keyboard accessible — we provide a list view as an alternative
  • Some colour contrast ratios on decorative elements may not meet the 4.5:1 minimum
  • Not all loading states are announced to screen readers

Accessibility of listed courses

BusyKids lists courses and activities from many different providers. We display accessibility information where providers have shared it, but we cannot guarantee the physical or digital accessibility of third-party courses. If you have specific accessibility requirements, we recommend contacting the course provider directly before booking.

We tag courses that indicate SEN (Special Educational Needs) provision where this information is available.

  • This website is built with Next.js and React
  • We use Tailwind CSS with dark mode support
  • Interactive maps use Leaflet (OpenStreetMap)
  • We test with axe DevTools, WAVE, and manual keyboard/screen reader testing
